What is public health?

The Madison County Health Department’s mission is to provide for and ensure the residents of Madison County an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a healthy, disease-free life.  Over the last several years, the Madison County Health Department has proven to be a leader in public health programming and service implementation. Madison County’s Health Department has maintained a childhood immunization rate of 90% or higher since 2002.  In 2004, the Madison County Health Department was awarded the Indiana Public Health Association's Innovative Health Education Award for planning and implementing fitness programs in the public school systems.  Also, the Madison County Health Department maintains executive officers within the National Public Health Association and hosts various statewide public health conferences, workshops, and tabletop exercises.
